Welcome to Martin Playing Field & Play Area
Martin's new play area was officially opened on March 29th 2011
The first tranche of equipment was paid for with Playbuilder funding allocated by the District Council but is now officially the responsibility of Martin Parish Council - and so, in way of everyone who lives here and who uses it.
Please do everything you can to look after the site and ensure the playing field remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone:
- Please take your litter home with you - and encourage others to do the same. If you find other people's newly-dropped, please remove it to the nearest bin if you can do so safely. At the moment there is a Parish Council wheelie bin just inside the gate of the burial ground.
- Please report any damage or dangerous items (such as broken glass) to the Parish Clerk Ann Parkinson on 07795 662187 or speak to any of the Councillors listed on the Parish Council pages.
- The playing field should be a dog-free area. If you are a dog-owner please use other areas to exercise your pet.
- If you observe any criminal damage being carried out, please call the police on 0300 111 0300 and then the Clerk. Any help you can offer on identifying individuals will be very helpful.
- Consider volunteering to be trained on doing the safety checks. We are planning to organise this for about 12 people later in the summer. It simply makes sense to have as many of us as possible to keep an eye on things. Please let the Parish Clerk know if you are interested in helping with this.
COMING SOON!
The equipment in place already is designed primarily for 8-13 year olds. The Martin Play Field Fund and Parish Council have worked together to get additional separate funding which will be used to install equipment for younger children and toddlers nearby. This funding also includes money for benches, picnic-tables and some signage. We hope this will all be in place in time for the summer holidays.
Once the grass is established we are planning that a 6-a-side footie pitch will be marked out to the north of the current equipment (on the left as you look towards North Moor Lane, and in April we are starting to consult with older young people aged 12-17 year olds on their needs.
Keep an eye out here and on the Message Boards for updates - and please use the Message Boards to add your own ideas and suggestions for how we can all contribute to increasing 'whole village responsibility' or improving the area.
