Welcome to Martin Village Shop

LATEST NEWS:
We are so pleased with the support and encouragement we have received from the villages in response to the opening of a shop here at the Royal Oak. As we said in out flyer, we were only given a few days notice to respond to the closure of the original village shop so were unable to plan ahead.
We have as promised, stocked up on the basics and have installed temporary shelving and a counter.
We are now awaiting planning permission so we can fit a new access door direct from the street. Our planning application has been submitted to NKDC and a decision should be known by the second week in December. We do appreciate that it is not an ideal situation having to enter the pub itself to gain access to the shop but at the moment there isn’t a choice.
The payzone terminal has been approved so very soon it will be possible for you to top up your phones and pay utility bills etc here.
We have advised the Doctor’s Surgery that we are willing to accept them here as we have safe storage facilities and competent staff to deal with them. They have thanks us but are not sure they can accept our offer. If you wish to contact the surgery about this then please do so.
We will of course keep you up to date on progress here and once again thank you for your support.
Sadly, as you may have heard, our village shop is to close. Many residents have expressed concern about this so we have decided to open a small shop in the Royal Oak pub. This will be a joint venture with Eclipse Farm and Harrison Security.
Due to the rather short notice, it will take some time to install shelving, a counter and refrigeration units, etc. In the meantime, we aim to start with newspapers and basic essentials like bread and milk from Saturday 8th November. New stock will be added on a daily basis building up to full stock early in the New Year. It is proposed to offer bill paying facilities and phone top ups etc, as soon as possible. Even in this electronic age these things do take time to organize.
To help us, we would like to know what you would like us to stock. Please pop in and tell us, phone us on 378904 or stop us in the street.
Our opening hours which are subject to adjustment will be 7.30am – 1-pm Monday to Friday. 8am – 10pm Saturday and 9.00am – 3pm Sunday.
Needless to say, if you are stuck, and the pub is open, we won’t turn you away.
